Gilt Sterling Berry Spoon in Bird Pattern by Wendt circa 1865 in New York, New York

For sale, a gorgeous gilt sterling berry spoon with engraved detailing in the "Bird" pattern by John R. Wendt. The pattern was introduced in 1865. When found this piece had a thin crack to the back of the bowl. The berry spoon was expertly repaired, restored and regilt by a master silversmith. It is now in excellent condition with crisp detailing to the handle motif and very good engraving of flowers and leaves on the sides of the spoon bowl. The piece is marked "sterling patent" and "J E Caldwell & Co." which was the retailer of the spoon. The spoon measures 10.25" in length and weighs 2.98 ounces. Price: $325
